To produce high-quality technical translations, firstly one needs sound knowledge in a particular discipline.
I am a trained architect. I studied at HCU Hamburg, IUAV Venice and ETH Zurich.
From 2009 to 2017, I worked for Annette Gigon / Mike Guyer Architects in Zurich, then as assistant to the chair of Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer at ETH Zurich.
Currently I am working as a freelance architect in Northern Germany.
Secondly, translations require good foreign language skills, but above all a confident command of the target language.
In my case, this is my mother tongue German.
(From German to English is also possible for shorter texts if a native English speaker checks the translation).
Translating is a stimulating sideline for me – it broadens my professional profile and my horizon.
Notes:
1) I have neither undergone any special training as a translator nor have I taken corresponding state examinations. I cannot offer certified translations.
2) Software and online translators now often produce good results, and I also use them for my work. What they cannot replace is a (human) mind that not only reads the text, but also understands it in context in order to “reconstruct” it as comprehensibly as possible in the target language. In other words: genuine interest in the content.
